PITTSBURGH, Pa. (PTTP)- Local first-grader Jax Ramirez could use your hand in his battle against IPEX- an extremely rare genetic disorder affecting one in every 1.6 million people.
Jax is in need of a lifesaving bone marrow donor. Missy Ramirez, Jax’s mother, has enlisted the help of Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, in an effort to spread awareness.
“It’s about playing the odds. My wife and I have a significant social media presence and that’s why we want to get behind this because it just takes that one donor. There’s 30 million that’s not a match, the next literal donor sample could be the match. And that’s what it’s about- it just takes one,” explains Lieutenant Governor Fetterman.
A simple cheek swab can help determine if you are a potential bone marrow match for patients. Text “JAX” to 61474 to learn more or visit http://my.bethematch.org/jax. Additionally, Be the Match for Jax (a Facebook page) is frequently updated with dates and locations of swabbing drives.
“It’s one swab that could change and save this little boy’s life,” says Lieutenant Governor Fetterman.
