Pitt Club Focuses on Reducing Campus Food Waste

Pittsburgh, Pa. (PTTP) – The Food Rescue Club is a student-led organization with the goal of reducing food waste on campus.

Students recover surplus food from dining locations around campus, which includes wrapping pastries and bagels, as well as packaging meals, for those in need. The food is then donated and transported to the Pitt Pantry and surrounding Oakland organizations such as Jubilee Soup Kitchen, Family House, and Wilkinsburg Community Ministry.

Having recovered over 700 pounds of food this semester alone, the Food Rescue Club is making a positive environmental impact while also encouraging others to be more conscious of how much food they put in the garbage.
The Food Rescue Club is continuing to expand and is always open to new members. Students can get involved with this great cause by contacting foodrecoveryheroes@gmail.com or by visiting their Instagram page @foodrecoveryheroes.
