PITTSBURGH, Pa. (PTTP) – The South Carolina Republican Primary will take place this
Saturday, Feb. 24. This will be the third major contest for Republican candidates. With former
President Donald Trump recently picking up wins in Iowa and New Hampshire, former South
Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is focused on coming out of South Carolina with a victory in her
home state.
The two major candidates on the ballot in South Carolina are Trump and Haley, with Trump
looking to be the front-runner for now. Ron Desantis and Vivek Ramaswamy might also still
appear on the ballot if they do not drop out of the race.
Saturday will be a big one for Haley. She was born in the Southern state and held the position of
Governor from the years 2011 to 2017. A loss in South Carolina this weekend would be costly,
putting her far behind Trump in the race to the white house. Despite this, Haley has stated that
she will not drop out of the race, regardless of the results of Saturday. She plans on staying in the
hunt for the GOP nomination at least until March 5, when many more states will hold their
primaries.
South Carolina voters participate in an “open” Primary, which means they can vote for whoever
they want, regardless of party affiliation. 50 state delegates are up for grabs this weekend. Polls
will be open on Saturday from 7 A.M. ET to 7 P.M. ET.
