Duquesne Makes It to March Madness

PITTSBURGH (PTTP)- Pittsburgh’s own Duquesne University is in March Madness. Duquesne joined these ranks when they won their conference tournament- the Atlantic 10- on March 17th against Virginia Commonwealth University. This is the first Atlantic 10 Championship title they have won since 1977. Duquesne University’s head coach, Keith Dambrot, announced his retirement after their win on Sunday, fulfilling his promise to bring Duquesne back into the NCAA Tournament.

Their A10 win launched them into the first round of the NCAA’s famed March Madness tournament. Yesterday, they competed against Brigham Young University in that round, winning 71-67. This is the first time Duquesne has won a March Madness game since 1969.

The University of Pittsburgh did not make the tournament, leaving Duquesne to carry the torch for the city. Pittsburgh hosted two games of March Madness at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday. Pittsburgh will also host a game of the 2nd round- Oakland University versus North Carolina State University- on Sunday.
