PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – The 50th season for the University of Pittsburgh’s gymnastics program began in January. The team looks to continue their success from ending last season. The team finished the 2024 season with a 7-11 record and had a share of the third-place title in the ACC. Pitt’s gymnastics head coach Casey Jo MacPherson said that this year’s squad “brings a lot of unique gymnastics”. The team is made up of several returners, both seniors and grad students, as well as some newcomers to the program.
In recent years, women’s sports have been on the rise. MacPherson mentioned that the gymnastics team wants to follow in the road paved by Pitt’s volleyball team to continue with the ever-growing viewership in women’s sports. The increase in viewership brings more eyes to the sports and team which leads to greater attendance and more fan support all around.
The team has many upcoming meets this season, including hosting both UNC and WVU in the sport’s Backyard Brawl. MacPherson wants as many Pitt fans as possible to come to the meets to support the team. With a combination of experienced leadership and fresh talent, the team aims to make an impact in its landmark season.
