PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) — Students and staff at Penn State are concerned about the hearing
of a possible closure of some of the branch campuses. They feel that this will have a large
impact. There have been no issues with degrees or how they have worked, but instead the
concern is with the finances.

In total, Penn State has 19 campuses. Many people talk highly about Penn State Allegheny, also
known as Penn State McKeesport. People have talked about how they love the small size and the
people and community. However, even with all of the positive things that have been said about
these campuses, things are not looking good for them. The vice president for Commonwealth
Campuses mentions how they are not sustainable now. The idea of closing some of these
campuses has been brought to attention by a decrease in enrollment and overhead costs. They
have to adapt to the plan of cutting the university’s budget by about $54 million later in the year.

This possible closure of satellite campuses has concerned Penn State educators. They just want it
to be clear if these campuses are closing or not. Similarly, students are concerned that if these
campuses are closed that they will have limited options. They say that it is convenient for them
right now and they would have to look for another campus to finish their degree.
