PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates will host the New York Yankees in their home
opener this Friday at PNC Park, with first pitch scheduled for 4:12 p.m., bringing an expected
economic boost to the city.
As PNC Park celebrates its 25th year on the North Shore, local businesses are preparing for the
influx of visitors. Throughout the weekend, visitors in Yankees jerseys will fill hotels, patronize
restaurants, and explore Pittsburgh’s attractions while contributing to the local economy.
The Pirates organization has prioritized enhancing the fan experience with ballpark
improvements to ensure the venue continues its legacy for future generations.
Aramark, the Pirates’ food vendor, has announced new offerings at PNC Park’s Cannonball
Stand, including a fried almond torte, the Polish Cannonball, and a chipped ham empanada. The
menu aims to honor Pittsburgh’s culinary history.
New souvenirs will also debut, including the Pirate Parrot foam mask, which will be sold
alongside cotton candy and is adjustable for both adults and children. The team shop will feature
Homage T-shirts with the famous pierogy race in both adult and children’s sizes.
“Beating the Yankees is going to be tough, but I’m just excited to see the Pirates back at PNC,”
said Ryan Pagano, 20, a lifelong Pirates fan. “Opening day has a special feeling that you can’t get
any other time of the year.”
The Yankees are expected to use their torpedo bats, which have gained attention around the
league. The technology redistributes barrel thickness to help batters when they get jammed.
The Pirates will begin their 2025 campaign against a formidable Yankees lineup in what
promises to be a well-attended matchup. Pre-game festivities will begin hours before the 4:12
p.m. first pitch, with gates opening to allow fans to experience the upgraded ballpark amenities
and new concession offerings. Weather forecasts suggest favorable conditions for opening day as
baseball officially returns to Pittsburgh for the 2025 season.
