PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) – Elections for a seat in the Wisconsin Supreme Court were
held on Tuesday, between liberal candidate Susan Crawford and conservative candidate
Brad Schimel. After results came in, Crawford won the election by a ten percent lead.
The election is very significant in regards to several current topics, with the potential for
this court to decide their future. With Wisconsin being a swing state, the population’s
leaning was up in the air until results came back.
Despite the fact that the state voted for President Trump in the last election, Wisconsin
did not return another conservative vote. Polling numbers were high for the State
Supreme Court election, with many out in support for their candidate.
This election is the most expensive judicial race in U.S. history, with both campaigns
costing over $90 million combined. One key reason for the high price is billionaire and
Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk.
Musk had become a focal point of the campaign near the end, travelling to Green Bay on
Sunday to attend a rally in favor of Schimel. He gave out million dollar checks to
multiple voters, and donned a large cheese hat to try and win over locals.
Topics that could find their way in front of the Wisconsin Supreme Court include
abortion rights, public unions, and legislative maps. The 4-3 liberal majority will be held
for at least another year, when another seat on the court will be up for election.
