Aaron Rodgers, the free agent after his release from the New York Jets, is the hot topic of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ ongoing search for a starting quarterback.
As a four-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl Champion, Super Bowl MVP, 10-time pro bowl selection, and 2-time first-team all-pro, the options for Rodgers have now narrowed to two. Reports indicate that 41-year-old Rodgers is considering signing with the Steelers, or will officially retire.
Throughout the off season, the Steelers have made some productive roster moves. After a year with the Tennessee Titans in 2024, quarterback Mason Rudolph signed a two-year, $4.5 million deal with the Steelers, after playing with them for six seasons following his third-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. In 13 starts for the Steelers, Rudolph went 8-4-1, including a 3-0 run to end the 2023 season.
The Steelers have also been conducting private workouts with Ole Miss quarterback, Jaxson Dart, indicating an interest in signing a young quarterback; however, recent reports state that the Steelers may not be as “all in” with Dart as they appear.
Finally, the Steelers’ 2024 starting quarterback Russell Wilson recently signed a one-year deal with the New York Giants, with a potential value of $21 million, which ultimately leaves the Steelers with one option, Aaron Rodgers.
The pursuit of Aaron Rodgers suggests a desire for an experienced quarterback to lead the team, as Rodgers easily fits into that department. Simultaneously, their interest in drafting a young quarterback like Jaxson Dart indicates a focus on long-term development, if Dart is still even in the question.
As the NFL Draft is approaching in late April, time is ultimately running out for both the Steelers and Rodgers – significantly impacting their quarterback decision for the upcoming season.
