Pitt Mascot ROC Secures Third Place at NCA College Nationals in Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (PTTP) — ROC the Panther, the University of Pittsburgh’s beloved mascot, achieved a notable third-place finish at the 2024 NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. Competing against top collegiate mascots nationwide, ROC’s performance showcased the spirit and energy emblematic of Pitt’s traditions.​  

The mascot division of the NCA College Nationals is a highlight of the annual competition, drawing attention to the creativity and enthusiasm mascots bring to collegiate sports. This year, Truman the Tiger from the University of Missouri claimed the top spot, while Buzz from Georgia Tech, the 2023 champion, also participated in the event. ​  

ROC’s performance in Daytona adds to a legacy of spirited representation for the University of Pittsburgh. Since being adopted as the university’s mascot in 1909, the Panther has symbolized the strength and pride of Pitt’s community.   

The team behind ROC, comprised of dedicated students, undergoes rigorous training to embody the mascot’s persona, ensuring that ROC remains a vibrant presence at athletic events and community engagements. ​  

As ROC continues to represent the University of Pittsburgh on national stages, the mascot’s recent success in Daytona serves as a testament to the enduring spirit and dedication of the Pitt community.​
