PITTSBURGH (PTTP) — After six years of planning, the University of Pittsburgh’s (Pitt) brand new Recreation and Wellness Center opened its doors for students in September 2025. The building features nine floors and a range of facilities and activities for students. Some include a swimming pool, a food court, an esports lounge, a stress-free zone, a rock climbing wall, and more.

Dorothy Stromdahl, associate director of facilities and operations, notes that this process required significant consideration and focus on accessibility for all students. “In order to do well, we need to be well, and ultimately providing opportunities of physical well-being and holistic well-being, only contributes further to the academic mission to allowing students to be their best selves,” Stromdahl said.

Students have noticed that the new building has motivated them to improve themselves and step out of their comfort zones. Their easy access to a wide range of activities makes it easier to gather a group of friends and try something new on a random Tuesday night, just for fun.

The goal of the Recreation and Wellness Center is to improve students’ health and support their academic growth. With a wide variety of options, there’s something for every student to improve their well-being.
