PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – Pittsburgh residents are seeing an increase in their electric bills,
causing concern as temperatures continue to stay below freezing.

Duquesne Light announced that residents would start seeing a 10% increase in cost as of
December 2025. This increase is on top of the already inflated costs that the winter season
brings. Many residents are struggling to keep up as record low temperatures hit the city.

The Dollar Energy Fund, a nonprofit organized to provide utility assistance, has seen an 131%
increase in assistance requests within the past year from residents in Western Pennsylvania. This number is said to only increase as temperatures continue to drop and costs continue to rise.

These increases are mainly due to the introduction of AI data centers in the area. The energy
required to run the facilities drives up the cost of resources in the area. This ultimately leads to
residents seeing higher electric costs in the area.

Duquesne Light has not commented on mitigating these costs for customers.
