PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – The port authority buses run like clockwork around Pittsburgh, going
right through our campus. Particularly the 61 bus lines connect Pitt students to several different
hubs around the city. So it’s easy to see why students could be concerned when a shooting took
place on a port authority bus last Saturday.
At around 5 P.M. shots were fired in a P1 bus near Homewood Station. Port Authority Police
reported the individual responsible for the shooting was arrested two days after. Despite the
individual being apprehended, student sentiment surrounding bus safety is mixed.
While some students did report feeling safe on the buses, it was almost unanimously
agreed on that one issue the bus lines have is consistency. Buses arriving late were
brought up several times, more times than concerns about safety.
As construction continues on the bus lines of Forbes and Fifth Avenue, only time will tell
whether student opinion on the buses will change
