PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – The Writers Guild of America has reached a tentative agreement on a four-year contract with The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The WGA stated that the negotiation committee voted unanimously in favor of the agreement. This agreement comes as a surprise after just weeks of negotiation, which is contrary to the negotiations from just three years ago, when a historic strike emerged.
The quick agreement was presumably made after a small strike began in February over unfair labor practices.
Details of the contract include increased health contributions by 3.25%, with the rate set to increase in the second year of the contract; minimum increases totaling 10.5%; further AI protections; and a better pension plan. The WGA states that they are “proud of what we achieved in this negotiation, made possible by your support”. Final voting on the official contract will take place on April 16th.
Some local members of the WGA say this will affect the Pittsburgh film scene, as the city fosters a fast-growing film community and AI data centers.
