Club jumprope is a relatively new club sport at the University of Pittsburgh, but it is steadily growing in size and visibility. The club is open to all students of all levels, but more experienced and committed students can participate in the club’s events and competitions around campus and beyond.

In a rare event for an on-campus club, the group performed several halftime shows at Pitt’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball games during their seasons. Co-Vice President Mackenzie Gutberlet stated that the club’s connections within Pitt athletics helped them reach this position, and they hope to continue building on those connections heading into the 2026-2027 athletics season.

Recently, the club competed in a club jump rope summit, hosted at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. During the event, they competed against other universities and even took home several awards. Alaina Berger & Carys Fay both won the best butt jump competition, which involves jumping over a rope while sitting on the floor. Berger took the award in the experienced female category, while Fay won the best female novice award.

As student interest in wellness and alternative fitness activities grows, organizations like Pitt Jump Rope continue carving out space on campus. For many members, the club represents more than exercise; it becomes a place to meet friends, build confidence, and rediscover a familiar activity in a new way.

At a university filled with opportunities for involvement, Pitt Jump Rope offers students a chance to pick up a rope, learn a new skill, and join a community one jump at a time.
