PITTSBURGH, Pa. (PTTP) – The nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday February 8th.
The Netflix film The Power of the Dog secured the most nominations totaling 12 in all including Best Picture, Best Director, and four acting nominations. Warner Bros. & Legendary Entertainment’s adaptation of the Frank Herbert classic science fiction epic, Dune, came in second in nomination totals with ten overall including Best Picture.
Will Smith’s biographical film on Richard Williams, King Richard, received six nominations, while Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical film about his childhood in Ireland, Belfast, and Steven Spielberg’s remake of the Best Picture winner, West Side Story, each received seven nominations.
Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car became the first Japanese film to be nominated for Best Picture. The film also received nominations for Best International Feature, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director.
The ceremony announcing the winners will take place on Sunday March 27th. (all information via Oscars.org)
