Pitt Mock Trial Club
PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) — The University of Pittsburgh’s mock trial team is a group of hopeful attorneys who compete against other schools in a court case. Each year they receive a fictitious case, and must develop their side to be as strong as possible.
With each case comes new witnesses, pieces of evidence, and special instructions that these students must turn into their case theory. It’s their job to take all of the information and present it in a way that proves their point. Statements must be memorized, witnesses must be acted, and an almost infinite number of objections must be at the ready.
President Grace Cuevas states that the team not only prepares every student with the skills necessary to become an attorney, but also creates lifelong bonds between all the members.
As this is a competitive team, its members find themselves competing all over the east coast. This past year alone, the team has gone to trial in Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Rochester.
Tryouts for the team are held every year at the start of the fall semester, and it is highly recommended for any student looking towards law for a career.
