
PITTSBURGH (PTTP) — Don Holmes is an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh who is loved by many different students. He teaches in the English department mainly focusing on American Literature, Rhetoric and Composition. While students get to see his passion for teaching, they also can see how his story is just one chapter in a much bigger story.
He knew from a young age that he wanted to be a teacher when he grew up. In high school, he won a national scholarship to study ecology in Canada, and this was the first time he ever met with professors. He later joined the army to help him pay for college; he later attended the University of Southern Mississippi, then finished with his PhD at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He then started as an English professor at Carnegie Mellon University for 2 years before accepting a job at the University of Pittsburgh.
Ending with Holmes’ story, we can all see how passionate he grew to love teaching and how he cares for his students.
