PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – Around midnight on Monday, there were alerts about an active shooter with a rifle on Forbes Avenue. But once again, Pitt failed to warn students with an ENS alert.
There was yet another active shooting alert in Oakland, with a man supposedly carrying a gun in the parking garage of UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital. Pitt did not send out any alerts to students again, bringing lots of negative attention towards the police department.
Pitt has had a rough history with providing students with safety alerts, and once again, they failed to do so. The SWAT team was called into the area to search for a man who was carrying a gun in the parking garage of UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital. Police also searched surrounding areas and buildings, such as nearby parking garages and even Skyvue Apartments, which students live in.
Later that night, when the search had concluded, police provided an update, stating that officers searched the area and did not find a gunman. The area was deemed safe after a long search and the roads reopened.
This incident raises lots of questions for students who live in the area, as there were incidents last school year where Pitt police did not provide adequate information to students about potential threats, and here is another example of it.
