Pittsburgh, Pa. (PTTP) – Attorney General and Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro speaks to Political Reporter Josh Burn. The conversation hit on abortion, voter legislation, student loans, marijuana legalization, and minimum wage reform. Josh Shapiro is the Democratic nominee to be Pennsylvania’s next governor.
On Abortion
Josh Shapiro reiterated his long held pro-choice stance. Any bills given to him that go against the stance will be vetoed.
“What we know with certainty is that the legislature will continue to put bills onto the desk of the governor that would either ban abortion, or severely limit it. “Shapiro said. Adding, “I’ve been very, very clear, I would veto those bills. I support a women’s right to choose.”
On Voting Legislation
Shapiro claims that his first act as governor will be appointing a ‘pro-democracy’ Secretary of State. The Attorney General emphasizes the responsibility of the Secretary of State to oversee the elections.
His next course of action will be implementing automatic voter registration. Under Shapiro’s proposal, those as young as 16 may register to vote.
On Student Loans
Shapiro believes he can energize young voters by speaking to them on matters that affect them the most. One of those matters are student loans. Shapiro pointed to his experience fighting student loans in the past.
“I’ve taken on predatory student loan companies, and cancelled more than 130 million in student debt.” Shapiro said.
On Marijuana Legalization
“We should legalize, regulate, and tax Marijuana for recreational purposes, period.” Shapiro said.
On Minimum Wage Reform
“We need to settle for nothing less than 15 dollar minimum wage, period.” Shapiro said.
Currently, Pennsylvania’s minimum wage is at 7.25$. All 6 states that border the Commonwealth are higher.
