Ballroom Dance Club at Pitt – A Place Where Anyone Can Dance

PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – The Ballroom Dance Club is a place where dancers and non-dancers can get together every week and learn traditional and social ballroom dances. Every week consists of a new style of dance, but always the same amount of fun.

The club’s President, Kayla Honeysett, expresses that the Ballroom Dance Club is a place where anybody can dance, and that everybody is there to learn. Honeysett says that it’s a “…very inclusive and welcoming. [An] overall positive experience [with] lots of long-lasting friendships.”

Vice President, Liv Lohman, explains that “99% of the people who come to this club have no dance experience at all and then they come to the club once, love it, and then come consistently every week.” Lohman also says that learning ballroom dancing is a great skill to have because you can dance at parties and weddings.

Hannah Jarvis, who is one of the club’s members, has been dancing for a long time, so joining the ballroom club was a must in her college career. “This club is very welcoming [and] it’s very accepting…it’s just really fun and a great way to just get involved and do some movement.”

Business manager, Abigail Burgess, explains how “Ballroom has been around for years, and it can seem really daunting to get into if someone is interested. The ballroom world in general can be very ‘high society’… but really, it’s just a lot of fun to dance and being able to do that with other students is a great opportunity to be introduced to the ballroom world.”

This weekend from March 22 – March 24, the Ballroom Dance Club will compete in the USA Dance National Ballroom Competition held in Pittsburgh this year.

The Ballroom Dance Club meets every Thursday in the William Pitt Union from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. Make sure to check out their Instagram (@ballroomdanceclubatpitt) for more information and updates.
