BRADENTON, Fla. (PTTP) – The Pittsburgh Pirates are gearing up for the upcoming baseball
season as pitchers and catchers reported to Pirate City in Bradenton, Florida where they will play
Grapefruit League games.
Among the notable prospects joining the camp is Paul Skenes, considered one of the most
exciting talents in the Pirates’ franchise. Skenes will be joined by other top prospects, including
right-hander Jared Jones, left-hander Anthony Solometo, and right-hander Bubba Chandler, as
they aim to prove their readiness for Major League Baseball.
In addition to the influx of young talent, the Pirates made significant moves in the offseason to
strengthen their roster. Marco Gonzales and Martin Pérez were added to bolster the big league
rotation, while veteran reliever Aroldis Chapman was required to provide high-velocity pitching
in crucial moments.
Furthermore, the Pirates solidified their catching corps with the signing of veteran Yasmani
Grandal to a one-year contract. Grandal, known for his prowess both at the plate and behind it,
brings a wealth of experience to the team, having established himself as one of the top catchers
in baseball over the past decade.
The Pirates’ Grapefruit League campaign will kick off with an opener against the Minnesota
Twins on Feb. 24, followed by their LECOM Park debut against the Baltimore Orioles on Feb.
25.
Looking ahead to the regular season, the Pirates will commence their 2024 campaign with a
four-game series against the Miami Marlins starting on Mar. 28, followed by a three-game series
against the Washington Nationals from April 1-4. Notably, the Pirates will make history by
facing the Orioles in their Home Opener for the first time ever, with a three-game series
scheduled from April 5-7, followed by a two-game series against the Detroit Tigers from April
8-9.
As the Pirates prepare for the upcoming season, anticipation is high among fans eager to see how
