Black History Month in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA (PTTP)- Black History Month will officially kick off across the United States on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The annual celebration, which highlights the contributions, achievements, and history of African Americans, runs through the entire month of February. 

Locally, Pittsburgh will host a series of events, including educational workshops, cultural performances, and panel discussions on topics ranging from civil rights to contemporary social justice movements. Many local institutions, including universities, libraries, and museums, will participate by offering exhibitions and presentations that focus on both the struggles and triumphs of Black Americans throughout history. 

This year’s theme focuses on african Americans and Labor, it explores the diverse and significant ways that all forms of work—whether free or forced, skilled or unskilled, vocational or voluntary—intersect with the collective experiences of African Americans, spotlighting the legacy who have helped shape industries and further societal progress. 

As Black History Month begins, communities in Pittsburgh and across the country are invited to reflect on the ongoing journey toward equality and celebrate the rich heritage and resilience of African Americans.
