Breakthrough at Pitt Tutoring Club

PITTSBURGH (PTTP)- Breakthrough at Pitt is a tutoring club at the University. They help out under privileged middle school and high school students in all topics. All majors are welcome to join this club, not just educationmajors. Pitt’s chapter of Breakthrough is a part of the larger main organization, Breakthrough, that originated in 1978 by Lois Loofbourrow. The goal of the organization was to empower students through tutoring. 

The club operates in the summer and the school year. Their mission statement mentions how they want to help students on their pathway to college. This group is mutually beneficial for both the students and the undergraduate students involved. Undergraduate students are helped with the guidance of professional teachers as well. Breakthrough at Pitt’s website says “Together, we are helping to reverse educational inequities.”
