PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – Dance is an art form that resonates with all kinds of people who come from various backgrounds. People from around the globe dance not only as a performing art, but as a way to tell stories and a way to express themselves or their culture. The Crossbody Dance and Movement studio, located in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh, focuses on celebrating Latin culture and many Latin dance styles, such as salsa and bachata.
The studio hosts a variety of Latin dance events, including weekly and monthly dance socials, workshops, and more. “Latin Thursdays” are held every Thursday night at the studio, where dancers can salsa, bachata, kizomba, and zouk while socializing and dancing to the tunes of a live, in-studio DJ. Not only is attending dance classes and dance events a great workout, but it is a way to connect with new friends and your community in a very special way.
“I moved to the city right after the pandemic and didn’t really have a lot of friends. Now, here we’re all friends! They were at my parents house this weekend for game night,” stated Bailey DeTesta, a dancer at the studio.
The directors of Crossbody Dance and Movement studio are Vincent Jones and Rachel Booth. Jones and Booth are world-champion Latin dancers, competitors, instructors and choreographers. They have performed all over the world, bringing back with them many accolades that speak to their skills. Their goal at Crossbody Dance and Movement is to create an inclusive and encouraging environment for people to come to connect with others, move their bodies, and grow in their confidence.
“With the classes that we do now, we do try to train heavily with technique and foundation. So when people do progress, things are being led and followed safely and comfortably and beautifully,” stated Rachel Booth, co-owner of the studio.
The studio provides group classes, private lessons, yoga, and specialized workshops. Dancers also have the opportunity to join performance and competition dance teams.
