Cultural Development in Pittsburgh with The Pop District

PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – The Andy Warhol Museum is at the forefront of a new cultural district in Pittsburgh.

The Pop District encompasses the Andy Warhol Museum. The $60 million project is being rolled out in phases, with the first phase concluding in May 2022. This phase included public art exhibitions, with more to come in the future. The first phase also created production spaces for the Warhol Academy, a 24-week digital marketing program covering various topics, all of which are subsidized.

The second phase of development will commence in 2024 and will feature new Andy Warhol destinations in the area, including a new 40,000-square-foot live performance venue. While The Pop District is only a short walk from the city’s North Shore neighborhood, Anneliese Martinez, the senior director for The Pop District, states that The Pop District is more focused on helping the people of Pittsburgh.

“As we are cultivating this program and cultivating the neighborhood, we’re also addressing about 30 years of use drainage out of the corporate park that surrounds the museum,” Martinez states. “About a third of the property and real estate that surround the museum and stadiums is completely empty, and so how might we reimagine the use of empty spaces that are just devouring carbon and putting those spaces back to work for people that live and work in Pittsburgh.”

The second phase will also establish the Warhol Campus, which aims to further the museum’s plan with the Pop District, focusing on developing more creative ventures for Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas.

The Andy Warhol Museum is committed to its mission with the development of The Pop District. The museum continues to push the envelope when it comes to its outreach programs and community partnerships while keeping its core values in mind.
