Economic Impact on Local Restaurants During Baseball Season

Pittsburgh (PTTP)- Friday, April 7, 2023, Opening Day Game for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Baseball is coming back full swing and die-hard fans are ready to bleed black and gold! There could be a potential strike regarding the ushers at PNC Park.

The PNC Park ushers want to work, but they want to be paid fairly. Pittsburgh Stadium Independent Employees Union is the name of the Union the Pittsburgh Pirate ushers belong to.

In 2005, ushers made $9.00 an hour. Two decades later they are making $9.35 an hour.

The union claims the average usher pay across the United Sates is $13.80. At a recent negotiating meeting the Pirates bargained $12.40. There was a 95 percent rejection on that offer.

The ushers feel disappointed that their loyalty, effort, and commitment that they show at every game is being ignored.

Even though the ushers might be missing from PNC park this year the fans won’t be.

During the segment Natalie had the opportunity to interview a couple of local restaurants near PNC Park. During the interview, the establishments addressed how they handle tourists, how their restaurant is impacted economically during baseball season, and how the Clemente Bridge closure could be affecting the Downtown establishments.
