TITUSVILLE, Pa. (PTTP) – If you’re looking for a program to challenge you, guide you, and show you the real ropes of what a career in nursing looks like, the program at the University of Pittsburgh – Titusville might be the one for you. Nursing Faculty Member Elizabeth Flickner offered us more information on this two-year program that will yield you an associate degree.
During the two-year associate-degree course, students will be comprehensively prepared for their National Council Licensure Examinations (NCLEX) – the licensing exams for nurses in the United States, Canada, and Australia. They also receive ample opportunities to observe nurses in a variety of hospital areas, from Mental Health to Obstetrics to Critical Care, at the Titusville and UMPC-Northwest hospitals. What separates the clinical experiences at Pitt-Titusville from other nursing programs is that a faculty member is always there at the hospital with students to make sure they are comfortable and clear on what they are learning.
Nurse Flickner doesn’t sugarcoat it for those considering pursing the degree: “It is a very challenging curriculum… but I think the benefit of that is that our students are prepared after graduation.” And her favorite part of the job? To see those students who were scared, nervous, or unsure during the first weeks of the program become confident and capable nurses.
School is about preparing students and letting them try things out so they can decide what they like and what they don’t like. This is built into the DNA of Pitt-Titusville’s program, both from a clinical and textbook standpoint, and it results in a majority of their students having job opportunities lined up before even getting their diploma.
