Highlights from Pitt: Reproductive Justice, Brazilian Culture, and Student Governance

PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) – Pitt to the Point’s collaboration with Pitt News for the top 3 stories of the week.  

A reproductive justice convention was organized and hosted by Pitt’s Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program. This convention ran from Thursday, February 22nd, until Saturday, February 24th. Multiple events happened over the four days, including a panel Q+A, a self-care bag assembly, and a lecture from Sydney Ehteredge, the CEO of PPWPA.  

The Pitt-Luso Brazilian Student Association or Brazil Nuts hosted their 18th annual Brazilian festival in the Willam Pitt Union at Pitt. The festival’s theme was ‘From the Allegheny to the Amazon and Beyond,’ which featured a dinner from local Brazilian Chef Keyla Nogueria, Samba group dancing by the Lua Dance Club, and live music.  

Pitt’s Student Government Board Elections were held on Tuesday, February 27th. The three slates running for the election were the Blank Slate, the Advocate Slate, and the Envision Slate. Sarah Mayer won the presidency, and Maddie McCann-Colvard, Ashley White, and Sanai Overton were all elected as board members. Overton will also serve as the wellness committee chair.
