PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – This Saint Patrick’s Day, many Pittsburghers will don their favorite green clothing, eat traditional Irish foods and decorate their homes with leprechauns and four-leaf clovers alike. But for the owners of the Irish Design Center, celebrating Irish identity is an everyday affair.
“We’re pretty committed to perpetuating the culture here in Pittsburgh and this [store] was an extension of that effort,” says Maura Krushinski, a co-owner of the Irish Design Center. Maura said she felt drawn to the store because of her own Irish heritage.
The Irish Design Center is located on Craig Street, near the campus of Carnegie Mellon University. The store sells Irish goods including food, coffee and tea, sweaters, hats, home decor, jewelry and more. Many of these items are authentically made in Ireland.
And while the Irish Design Center connects Pittsburgh to Ireland from afar, the store’s owners make sure to connect with Ireland in person each year, too.
“We go just about every year to come to meet the makers, the people that are from Ireland who put these things together,” said Petrone.
