PITTSBURGH, Pa. (PTTP)– The race for the senate nomination is heating up as both sides look to secure their spot on the ballot.
In the race between current Lt. Gov. John Fetterman and Rep. Conor Lamb, Fetterman is shaping up to be the party’s nominee. According to Politico, Fetterman is leading Lamb by 30 points. Making matters worse for Lamb, Fetterman is slated to win the primary election in May as well as the general election in November. However, Lamb’s campaign has not lost hope.
Lamb’s campaign is optimistic, insisting he should not be counted out as the party’s nominee for the general election. They believe that voters have not made up their mind yet. To aid their decision, Lamb’s super PAC has been testing negative messaging against Fetterman. Some of these messages have included labeling Fetterman a “socialist” and saying he has appeared at “Defund the Police” rallies, equating the latter to wanting to release convicted felons back into society. They are also relying on the fact that Fetterman has never beaten a Republican.
The Fetterman campaign released a statement in response to the messaging, calling it “Fox News talking points” and saying it was a “desperate move”. Fetterman is relying on reaching out to constituents across the state, instead of engaging with the higher-ups in the government. This is why his success causes much confusion within the political establishment.
Fetterman and Lamb are not too different in terms of policy, despite Fetterman’s “socialist” label. The main difference between the two is that Lamb is a more traditional politician, whereas Fetterman portrays himself as an anti-establishment option. The political battle between the two is set to begin, and will finish when voters voice their opinions in the primaries.
