Local Company to Roll Out Artificial Intelligence System in UPMC Hospitals

PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – Local company Abridge is implementing a new generative artificial intelligence system in UPMC hospitals in the Pittsburgh area.

Abridge’s system uses a generative AI system, similar to that of Chat GPT, using a set of algorithms to create things. This system has been used to create realistic images or conversations. The medical world has been hesitant to use this sort of technology, as it tends to “hallucinate” or generate incorrect information.

Abridge’s low-risk system creates summaries and clinical notes for doctors. Abridge’s system allows doctors to create clinical summaries and notes by simply talking with their patients, helping doctors save roughly two hours every day.

This system will soon be available for thousands of employees working at UPMC hospitals, making it significantly easier to get appointments while still receiving the same level of care, resulting in a significant increase in the number of patients that can be cared for in the Pittsburgh area.
