Mitch McConnell to Step Down as Republican Leader of the Senate

PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) –  Mitch McConnell announced on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, that he
would step down as Republican Leader of the Senate. McConnell is the longest-serving Senate
leader in History.

“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next
chapter,” he said. “So I stand before you today…to say that this will be my last term as Republican Leader of the Senate,” McConnell announced this just days before Super Tuesday where former President Donald Trump will get delegates to vote for him. McConnell and Trump have had an estranged relationship since the events that took place at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

McConnell will finish out his term ending January 2027, from a different seat in the chamber.
