PITTSBURGH, PA. (PTTP) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and State Police have
ramped up enforcement of “Operation Orange Squeeze,” a crackdown on speeding and reckless
driving in highway work zones.
The initiative, which pairs state troopers with construction crews, aims to curb speeding
violations and protect road workers. Undercover officers monitor traffic from work vehicles,
relaying speeders’ information to patrol units stationed ahead.
“Too many drivers ignore posted work zone speed limits, putting workers and themselves at
risk,” said State Police Capt. Robert Krol. “This program helps ensure compliance and safety.”
Fines for speeding in work zones start at $200, with increased penalties for repeat offenders. The
initiative comes amid rising work zone crashes, prompting renewed safety efforts statewide.
Officials urge drivers to slow down, obey posted limits, and remain vigilant in construction
areas. “A few extra seconds can save lives,” said PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton.
Operation Orange Squeeze will continue throughout the year on high-risk sections of the
turnpike, with unannounced enforcement days to maximize deterrence.
