BRADENTON, FL – Major League Baseball Spring training has officially started. The Pirates
pitchers and catchers reported to Bradenton, Florida on 12 February with the rest of the team
following shortly after. The Pirates organization turns the area five miles east of Lecom Park in
Bradenton into “Pirate City”, an experience for fans and players alike to enjoy alongside Spring
training. Fans can buy tickets to Spring games, along with packages that include experiences in
Pirate City, now on MLB.com/Pirates.
The Pirates first game will be on Saturday, 22 February with first pitch at 1:05pm. The game will
be played against the Baltimore Orioles.
The MLB will also host “Spring Breakout” , a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future, the
current stars of Minor League Baseball, from 13-16 March 2025, at Grapefruit and Cactus league
stadiums during Spring Training.
The Pirates finished the 2024 season with a final record of 76-86, and were ranked last in the
National League Central. Pirates fans and analysts hope to see a change in offensive play and
bullpen pitchers come regular season play. The team is predicted to focus on hitting, with a new
hitting coach entering the lineup this past November. Excitement surrounds the Pirates upcoming
