SCOTTSDALE, AZ (PTTP) – In 2020, former property attorney and mentalist entertainer for law firms and events pitched the idea of a device that would change the world of sports communication. When the device was first used by the MLB, it was the first time ever that they used a device to send pitch signals.
This PitchCom device is a communication system that allows pitchers to request pitches without using visible signals. MLB approved this device in 2022 in hopes that it would discourage sign stealing and speed up the pacing of the games. Though pitchers and catchers benefit from this, this device goes beyond just those two players. Three extra ear pieces are available for each team, which are often divided among the center fielder, shortstop, second baseman, and third baseman. Ranger Brad Miller, a utility player, said he used to try to read the catcher’s indications in order to get ready for plays, but that PitchCom helped him predict where a ball might be hit more quickly.
Ever since the Houston Astros incident, baseball has been looking for a way to discourage cheating and the use of stealing. This problem quickly went away when the PitchCom device was brought to life and players learned the act of communication and honesty.
