PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP)- The University of Pittsburgh Baseball team is off to the best start through 11 games since the 2020 COVID-19 season. After starting their season 4-2, the Panthers have gone on to wins 5 straight, after defeating Ohio 16-2, sitting currently with a record of 9-2.

The Panthers took on Bucknell in their season’s home opener, a team they lost to last season, and proceeded to mercy them in an 18-3 win on Wednesday. They followed this up with their first home series of 2026, sweeping UNC Greensboro, including a 14-2 mercy to wrap up Saturday’s double header.

The Panthers have scored 125 runs through 11 games, only allowing 39 runs in that time span. The lineup features key transfers in Trey Fenderson, Joey Baran, and Kai Wagner, with Fenderson and Baran having an OPS (on base plus slugging) over 1.000, and Wagner having an OPS of .950.

The Panthers brought six key bats from last year’s team, headlined by Caden Dulin, Lorenzo Carrier, AJ Nessler, and Sebastian Pisacreta, who all played key roles in last weekend’s sweep of UNC Greensboro. The Panthers also brought in Freshman Mason Ligenza, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th round of the 2025 MLB draft.

The Panthers travel to California this weekend to take on San Jose State, before heading to Stanford to open up ACC play. The ACC features seven Top 25-ranked teams, with two being featured in the top ten.
