GREENSBURG, PA (PTTP)- Pitt-Greensburg’s Life Sciences Building has been awarded the esteemed Crystal Award for Building Excellence by the Master Builders’ Association of Western PA, recognizing exceptional achievement in new construction projects valued at under $15 million.
The construction of the Life Sciences Building commenced in September 2021 and was successfully completed in December 2022, showcasing conscientious planning and execution. Its official inauguration for use in January 2023 marked a significant milestone, affirming its pivotal role in fostering life sciences education and research. This new facility offers seven laboratory spaces that science, nursing and nonscience disciplines will be able to use.
This prestigious accolade not only highlights the architectural and construction prowess of the building but also underscores Pitt-Greensburg’s dedication to advancing academic and scientific endeavors. The construction endeavor injected approximately $3 million into the local economy and generated around 125 temporary direct employment opportunities.
Bob Gregerson, President of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, stated that “We gained facilities we didn’t have, for nursing, there’re simulation labs, where you work with smart manikins… and we didn’t have space for that before, those are really cutting edge teaching tools and our skills lab is twice as big, it provides more opportunities for faculty and students to work together in a simulated hospital setting.”
