Pitt Medical Minute: American Heart Month

PITTSBURGH, PA. (PTTP) — The Biden administration has proclaimed Feb 2022 as American Heart Month to spread awareness of the ongoing fight against cardiovascular disease.

After all, it is America’s number one killer, claiming the lives of more than 650 thousand people each year. According to the CDC, heart disease can affect anyone at any age, including college students.

Dr. Malamo Countouris is a cardiologist at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Countouris spoke with Pitt to the Point Medical Minute reporter, Vinit Joshi about why American Heart Month matters and how we can all find healthier options.

The 2022 Heart of Pittsburgh Heart Ball is hosted by the American Heart Association. The ball will take place at the Wyndham Grand hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, on Saturday, Mar 19 from 5 to 11p.m.
