PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – The University of Pittsburgh men’s basketball team, despite a valiant effort in the ACC championships, found themselves on the sidelines for the NCAA tournament after placing 4th in the conference. The disappointment ran deep for the Panthers, who opted not to accept an invitation to the NIT tournament.
Coach Jeff Capel’s leadership during this challenging season did not go unnoticed. With that said Capel was recently named a finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award. This prestigious accolade recognizes coaches who not only achieve success on the court but also demonstrate moral integrity, a testament to Capel’s character and coaching philosophy.
Meanwhile, over on the wrestling mat, the Pitt wrestling team has been elevating their status with a strong showing in NCAA qualifiers. With a total of seven team members securing spots, the Panthers are poised for success in the upcoming championship.
The weight classes saw significant representation from the Panthers, with qualifiers spanning various divisions. Among the notable qualifiers are Dayton Pitzer in the heavyweight division (285), Mac Stout (197), Reece Heller (184), Luca Augustine (174), Holden Heller (165), Finn Solomon (149), and Cole Matthews (141).
Despite the setback in basketball, the University of Pittsburgh’s athletic prowess remains evident, with the wrestling team carrying the torch of excellence as they gear up for the NCAA championships.
