PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP)- The University of Pittsburgh’s annual Pitt Dance Marathon was this
past Saturday on March 29 at the Charles L. Cost Sports Center. Each year students and members
of PDM get together for an all-day event after fundraising for their respective teams each year.
The event involves non-stop dancing and entertainment, as well as listening to inspiring stories
from families whose children have benefitted from the money raised from PDM.
Partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, PDM has raised over 2 million dollars,
and is now in its 10th year as an official student organization. This year, PDM raised over
400,000 dollars. The proceeds earned each year are donated to the UPMC Children’s Hospital
Foundation, to help aid healthcare for children, research and hospital programs.
The Pitt Broadcasting Club played a key role in covering the Pitt Dance Marathon, providing a
live broadcast of the event. The broadcasting club captured all the key moments, including the
dance performances, heartfelt speeches from families benefiting from the UPMC Children’s
Hospital, and the final fundraising reveal.
Pitt’s Broadcasting club offers hands-on experience for students to work broadcasts, being able
to direct, report, and anchor various shows. This year they interviewed participants, gathered
behind the scenes footage, and commentated as anchors throughout the full 12-hour broadcast.
