PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – Pittsburgh’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off the city’s massive celebration.
Top of the morning to you, and happy St. Patrick’s Day! Pittsburgh is home to one of the largest Irish-American populations in the United States, with 11 percent of the population being Irish, leading to one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the entire United States.
The parade is one of the largest events the city of Pittsburgh houses each year with a route spanning almost one and a half miles from start to end, gathering more than 200 attractions. The parade is not only the largest in Pittsburgh but one of the largest in the United States, bringing over 200,000 spectators from around the United States annually.
Pittsburgh natives look forward to the parade every year, with it being an annual tradition for many Pittsburghers. The parade is often referred to as the unofficial start to spring, even if that means spring is starting off with freezing temperatures.
“I’ve been coming down here with my mom and dad for years when I was a little kid” stated Jerry Likar. “And I’ve always brought my kids here since they were little every year”.
“Probably since I was born!”, Jerry’s son, Corbin Likar chimed in.
St. Patrick’s Day is a special time for Pittsburgh. A time of celebration of the city’s Irish heritage, even for those who may not be blessed with the luck of the Irish. Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Day parade will continue to be one of the city’s defining events for years to come.
