PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) – The Steel City store is closing down its Downtown Pittsburgh location and is moving to a brand new one in The Strip District. The Downtown location’s last day was March 16th, and the new store will open up in The Terminal shopping center on April 5th.
Husband-and-wife co-owners Brandon and Carly Grbach – who founded the company in 2011 – have not provided a reason for the move, but they have been expanding Steel City’s footprint across Pittsburgh recently. New locations have recently opened up in Cranberry Township, Shadyside, and the South Hills Village shopping mall with the later only opening in September of last year.
The Terminal is not expanding, but the building is getting more new stores in the oncoming months. In addition to Steel City, a new Sephora will open sometime this summer, and a new branch of local jewelry chain Orr’s Jewelers will open in the building sometime this fall.
Both the Grbaches and the proprietors of The Terminal have invited Pittsburghers to Steel City’s grand opening in April. The exact location of the store within The Terminal has not been announced. The Downtown location is already permanently closed, but the other three branches are still open for business. There are no current plans to replace the Downtown location with a different store, but time will tell what steps up to replace this decade-old Pittsburgh institution.
