PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) — The nominations for the 2025 Oscars were announced on
Thursday after being delayed twice because of the wildfires in Los Angeles. With 13
nominations, “Emilia Pérez,” had the most nominations. They were only one nomination away
from tying for the record of total nominations for one film. There were three films that got 14
nominations: “Titanic,” “All About Eve,” and “La La Land.”
Oscar history was made when Karla Sofía Gascón was nominated for an Oscar. She is the first
transgender woman to be nominated for an Oscar within any acting category. She has a tough
competition as her competitors for the award are Cynthia Erivo from “Wicked,” and Demi
Moore from “The Substance.”
Runners up to “Emilia Pérez,” with 10 nominations, were “Wicked” and “The Brutalist.” “Emilia
Pérez” also won four Golden Globes for best motion picture musical or comedy and Zoe
Salaña’s performance received one for the best supporting actress. “The Brutalist” also won
some Golden Globes for best motion picture drama and Adrian Brody, the lead actor, also won a
Golden Globe. Salaña and Brody were also nominated for Oscars.
The Oscars were scheduled to be in January, however with Hollywood’s busy social calendar and
the natural disasters that took place in LA, the awards were moved back. The Oscars nominees
luncheon has been scheduled for Feb. 10 and the Oscars will be on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre
in Hollywood.
