PITTSBURGH (PTTP)- Oakland’s music scene grows ever bigger with Oakland Indie Fest, an 11-hour music festival that fundraises for charity. This year, 14 local musical acts will perform throughout the day, from noon to 11pm. The event is presented by Post Genre and 8TRAK Entertainment, who have organized other shows as a part of the Live From Oakland series.
Indie Fest debuted last year and was originally organized by Black Lodge, an informal house venue on Lawn St. Last year’s festival supported East Palestine, Ohio after a derailed train polluted the area with hazardous materials. The cause was chosen for its importance to Adam Klenovich, a member of both Black Lodge and Post Genre, as he is from the nearby area.
The proceeds from this year’s Oakland Indie Fest are going towards the creation of a permanent music venue in Oakland. This concept was piloted earlier this year with the Genesis concert series, which were shows held in the former church on 301 Atwood St. The future location of a permanent Oakland venue remains undetermined.
Mark Riggio, a co-founder of Post Genre, remarks: “Indie Fest is continuing our mission to support and platform Oakland bands. It’s beyond that as well- it’s also giving the music community an amazing day…also the Pittsburgh community as a whole.” The 2024 Oakland Indie Fest takes place on Saturday, April 20th on Flagstaff Hill.
