While some students travel far and wide with their spring break, rising costs have others to stay
behind. According to Bloomberg, traveling costs for spring break are currently at an all time
high, averaging over $8,000. It’s because of this that some students are instead venturing
home, or going on smaller trips to save cash. Others who are still taking the time to vacation are
trying to be more cost effective, like staying at Airbnbs and making their food as opposed to
eating out.

and rural Fayette County

A Pitt project is currently helping Fayette County sustainably redevelop its once-thriving
economy. With funding from the Appalachian Regional Commision, Appalachian Bridges to the
Future is focusing its efforts to quell brain drain around the area. The county originally saw a
boom in production during WWII, but quickly saw a decline in production and population after
the war ended. One of the methods the program employs to revitalize the economy is
educational programs, which are aimed towards small business owners on how advertise and
employ for entry-level positions.
