Kevin’s Deli Voted Best Black-owned Business in The Pitt News’ Survey

Kevin McAllister began working at the Webster Hall Deli for 17 years, starting in 1987. In 2004,
McAllister took over and renamed it Kevin’s Deli. Students voted Kevin’s Deli the best
Black-owned business in The Pitt News’ annual “Best Of” survey. Located inside Webster Hall,
he serves classics like buffalo chicken salad and Reubens, as well as breakfast options.
According to McAllister, his steak hoagie is “the best in the city.”
Students Express Frustrations Obtaining Disability Resources & Services Accommodations

Pitt students have been frustrated with the process of obtaining accommodations from the Pitt
Disability Resources & Services Office for several years, according to Max Wasserman,
president of the Student Disability Coalition. Requested accommodations are reviewed on a
case-by-case basis by evaluators and, occasionally, committee review. The DRS has nine staff
members, including six student disability specialists and one staff and faculty disability
specialist. They currently serve 2,830 students in undergraduate, graduate and professional
programs on the Oakland campus.
Hiring Freeze Raises Staffing Concerns for Pitt language departments

At Pitt’s most recent faculty assembly, former University Senate President Chris Bonneau
voiced concern over how the hiring freeze could worsen staffing issues in “already struggling
departments,” specifically in the language departments. Associate professor and department
Chair John Walsh said the Italian master’s program was caught between the pause in graduate
admissions and the hiring freeze.The department’s request to undo the graduate admission freeze
for the program was denied.
