‘World Cafe’ facilitates discussions on diversity and inclusion
The University’s Office of Inclusion and Belonging hosted a “World Cafe” on Sunday in the William Pitt Union, where participants ate food from various cultures and discussed questions on what it means to be included or excluded at Pitt. OIB’s International Programs coordinator Weiyi Tu emphasized Pitt’s commitment to creating an inclusive space through open student discussion.

SGB approves anti-hate ad hoc committee, hears concerns of unfair treatment on campus
The Student Government Board held its weekly meeting in Nordy’s Place on Tuesday, where it unanimously approved an anti-hate committee in response to recent anti-Semitic incidents on campus. Board member Evan Levasseur said the committee will identify hate of all forms at Pitt. SGB also heard from Students for Justice in Palestine at Pitt representative Haiwei Hu, who condemned actions he called “punitive” against activist organizations on campus.

Descendent of Holocaust survivors speaks to students on Holocaust Remembrance Day
In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day on Monday, Hillel hosted Pitt-Greensburg professor Dr. Melissa J. Marks, who told the story of her mother and grandmother, both of whom are Holocaust survivors. After the talk, students painted wooden butterflies, inspired by Pavel Friedmann’s poem “The Butterfly” dedicated to children killed in the Holocaust.
