PITTSBURGH, Pa. (PTTP) — On Sunday, April 7, 2024, the University of Pittsburgh Athletic
Department hosted the seventh annual Panther Choice Awards at the Petersen Event Center.
A variety of Pitt sports teams were in attendance, from volleyball to cheer and dance. The awards
celebrate these student athletes’ achievements in academics, athletics, and citizenship from the
2023 to 2024 school year.
As the teams wrap up another year full of many moments of success, the student-athletes shared
their excitement about the event and favorite memories from the season.
“What it means to me specifically is just getting to see people doing such great things for their
teams and programs and just how it’s contributing to Pitt as a whole and Pitt Athletics,” says
Senior volleyball player Cat Flood.
On Sunday Night, It was announced that five student-athletes will have their names engraved on
Pitt’s prestigious Varisty Walk, a walkway in between the Cathedral of Learning and Heinz
Memorial Chapel. This honors the student-athletes who have contributed to the University by
receiving the Panther Award or the Blue and Gold Award. Blake Hinson, Cole Matthews,
Amanda West, Landy Mertz, and Dylan Reed will all be remembered forever as legends in Pitt
Athletics history.
