The University of Pittsburgh medical center was recently recognized for outstanding work in the medical field, being 1 of only 12 pediatric clinics to be picked for the Leapfrog Group award of Best Children hospitals. The Leapfrog Group is a nonprofit watchdog organization that collects, analyzes, and publishes data on the quality and safety of healthcare clinics for the past 20 years. Known for bold transparency, pushing the healthcare industry further, and promoting affordable high-value care. Leapfrog conducts a “Safety Grade” which looks at statistics pertaining to infection, problems with surgery, safety problems, practices to prevent errors, and the staff. Then breaking down those sections and comparing their performance of them to the national average.
UMPC Children’s was selected as a Top Hospital out of a record of 2,200 clinics in the survey this year. The hospital received an A in grading, achieving nearly all of the grading requirements. The two biggest areas the hospital needs to improve on are Children and parent experience as well as infection in both the urinary tract and blood.
Daine Hupp president of UPMC said quote “The Leapfrog Group’s national recognition highlights our remarkable team of devoted physicians, nurses, and staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and the ongoing surge of respiratory illnesses to ensure every patient and family has the safest experience and receives the highest-quality compassionate care they deserve”
With another successful year behind the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, starting the new year, patiently waiting to see what new life-changing medicine comes from UPMC Children’s Hospital. Because at Pitt, Progress is always in progress.
